Can red worms eat pumpkin?

Are Leftover Jack-o-Lanterns a Treat for Compost Worms?

Indeed! No trick about it, pumpkins, along with every other gourd and squash you see this season are ideal fodder for your worm bin.

The dense moist flesh is easily consumed by the microbes and compost worms who gather en masse to feast. Even mold or the rotting flesh of a hollowed out pumpkin head is quickly devoured and transformed into rich castings.

It would almost sound creepy–if it weren’t so totally awesome!!

*Make sure to remove any candles or decorative accouterments used for decoration before adding pumpkins to your worm bin.
